Artlink West Yorkshire is a community arts organisation specialising in arts and health initiatives. We are based in a terraced building in the Hyde Park area of Leeds, and have been in the building as an arts organisation since 1979. We have recently realised our long-term ambition - to transform the building, which was in a very run down condition, into a state of the art centre for arts and health. To this end we now have a newly refurbished building with full disabled access via a lift, a basement workshop space and a brand new arts studio. We have also incorporated an exhibition hanging system throughout the entire building to showcase the artwork produced on our projects.
We are governed by a management committee of seven people, and have four members of staff, two of whom are part-time. In the long term we would like to at least double the number of permanent staff we employ. We employ a number of professional freelance artists to deliver our projects. We pride ourselves in providing quality artistic initiatives for vulnerable members of the community, our most recent groups include; mental health service users, physically disabled adults, individuals experiencing eating disorders, refugees and asylum seekers, women suffering domestic abuse, young mothers, older people with dementia and their carers, young people at risk of exclusion, individuals involved with the criminal justice system, all with a focus on positive mental health and sustained coping mechanisms.
